Professional Photography : genre selection & concentration

This Advanced course is targeted to assist students in fulfilling ambitions in professional photography. The focus is on developing specific creative and conceptual skills to gain better understanding of the students' selected photography genre.

Select from the list of four majors; Commercial Photography, Photojournalism, Fashion, Editorial and Wedding, Visual Arts Photography, for a comprehensive course aimed to build professional portfolios which will be guided and evaluated by professional photographers.

The following courses will work towards portfolio in print or digital.

Certificate of completion will be presented by the end of each course.

Course Requirement

This course is only for students 16 years old and above
Prerequisite : Exploring Photography : in-depth creativity & technical skills
A digital SLR or mirrorless camera with manual override and interchangeable lenses
Digital camera that is able to capture RAW format
Digital camera that has a flash sync or hot shoe to sync with professional strobe system
Laptop with Lightroom and Photoshop

Course Outline

Commercial Photography

Learn to plan, produce, set up and shoot for commercial photography under the guidance of industry professional photographers
Master technical foundation in portraiture, product, food and lifestyle advertising photography
Shoot both on location and in studio with digital capture and applying post-production techniques
Gain understanding of technical, aesthetic, and the practical business side of the industry
Access to professional studio and studio lighting to develop your portfolio

Fashion, Editorial & Weddings

Plan, produce, craft, and execute a professional fashion, editorial, and pre-wedding portraiture shoot
Opportunities to work with professional industry team of models, fashion stylist, make up and hair stylist
Learn technical photography skills and develop your knowledge with industry professionals
Access to professional studio and studio lighting to develop your portfolio

Photojournalism

Learn to find stories, pitch, create and tell impactful stories as photojournalist and documentary photographer
Understand how photographs communicate visually in a story and as a single image
Learn journalism ethics, history of visual reportage and its impact on society

Visual Art Photography

Set your creativity and imagination free, while expressing your personal style in both Black & White, and Colour Photography
Create photos that evoke feeling and imagination in this course that brings forth and explores your personal creative processes
